Christoph Matt is an Austrian eco-social designer and interdisciplinary facilitator with a diverse background in design, visual arts, sustainability, and posthumanism. He has a BA in InterMedia in sustainability and graphic design focus from FHV University of Applied Sciences, Austria, and completed studies at Bilgi University in Turkey. His education continued with a MFA in Embedded Design, emphasizing sustainability and design, at HDK-Valand in Sweden, including an exchange program at Iceland University of the Arts in Reykjavik. Christoph has guest lectured and hosted workshops at institutions such as Iceland University of the Arts, University Centre of the Westfjords, in Iceland, HDK-Valand, Chalmers University of Technology, KV Konstskola, in Gothenburg, Sweden, and FHV University of Applied Sciences in Austria. He has also presented at international design festivals and conferences and conducted workshops focusing on nature-human relationships through design and artistic practice. He actively participates in the Design + Posthumanism Network and The Conference of the Birds project in Scandinavia. He founded and co-curated the Nature Design Camp with UNESCO Biosphärenpark Großes Walsertal and publishes the Nature Design Guide, fostering connections between humans and nature which earned the University of Gothenburg Sustainability Thesis Award in 2022. Within the PUBLIC–US project, Catherin Schöberl invited Christoph to work together with marginalised communities on decolonising public monuments in European cities. Additionally, Christoph co-founded the interdisciplinary art collective Sympoietic Society, focusing on the extinction of glaciers and bodies of water in Finland, Italy, and Austria. As part of the Dear Deer artist duo with Isadora Alves, he engages in the Archives of the Earth project, combining on-site printmaking and text writing in volcanic habitats. In addition to his research and artistic endeavours, Christoph is working both, on-site and remote with regional and international clients upon request.
